We asked Bottoms Up! Fitness owner, Libby Babet, about her fitness journey and what you can expect from this program…

People often ask me how I keep up my motivation when it comes to working out.

The answer is really simple for me – I’ve found a way to change my relationship with fitness, from “needing to” burn calories to “wanting to” get active. Here’s my story…

I grew up a sporty kid – I used to run for Queensland (200m and 400m), played touch footy for Queensland and even represented Australia in Hip Hop dance (random, I know!). But after I left school and before I became a PT, I started to find exercise a bit of a chore and suddenly it was really hard to stay consistent with my training, and really easy to be inconsistent with making healthy food choices!

Why was it suddenly so hard? When I really thought about it, I realised three important things were missing… 1) fitness used to be fun, 2) I used to love training because it made me feel good about myself, rather than judged and full of self-doubt and 3) playing/competing as part of a team gave me a community of like minded people, so we kept each other accountable.

Somehow over the years, fitness had became more about being thin and there was so much pressure to look a certain way that working out didn’t make me feel particularly good about myself. In fact, it was making me feel pretty bad about myself.

When you break it all down, human beings are driven by two emotions – pleasure and pain.  Fitness used to be a pleasure (something I looked forward to), but somehow it had become a pain (something I dreaded, which made me feel judged).

The solution? Simple: make fitness fun again, focus on how it makes you feel rather than how it makes you look, and don’t do it alone. Those are the underlying concepts behind my business Bottoms Up! Fitness (AKA BUF Girls) and that’s the advice I give anyone who asks how I stay motivated.

Over the past 5 years, my team and I have been taking the very best of everything we’ve learned about fitness and nutrition, distilling it down into a simple, step-by-step, 6 week online health and fitness program called BUF Body.

It’s fun, it gets you focused on the right things, and you won’t be doing it alone.
