When a few of the WF team headed down to Potts Point to try out Sydney’s first and only hot mat Pilates offering, we were hoping the class would hold the secret to the sixpack abs we had been hoping for.

What’s bright, fresh and spacious, and will make your abs hurt for days? The new One Hot Yoga & Pilates studio in Sydney, that’s what.

When Team WF arrived for the Hot Mat Pilates class, there were plenty of ‘oohs’ and ‘ahhs’ as we ogled the stunning studio space. Think luxe modern architecture and big windows that flaunt some seriously pretty city views. (This feels like the kind of place you would want to come to every day – maybe for some full-body toning, maybe to move in and live forever).


But those impressed ‘oohs’ and ‘ahhs’ quickly turned to ‘arghs!’ as we settled onto our mats (in a room heated to a balmy 27 degrees) and began the class, which really should be renamed The Toughest 50-Minute Ab Challenge Ever. Seriously, our cores did not get a nanosecond to rest, between the sit-ups, alternate arm and leg raises, Pilates ‘swimming’ and a few tricky boat-pose variations. But apart from the sweat we shed, the beauty of moving swiftly from one exercise to the next meant time zoomed by and, before we knew it, we were on our way out – feeling 98% sure that tomorrow we would all reveal new sixpacks.

We didn’t wake up with the sixpack abs we had our fingers crossed for, but there was definitely some post-workout soreness that made laughing painful, and left us feeling preeeetty chuffed with our efforts.
