Some of Sydney’s best healthy eats
We love a meal (or two) out and when it comes to healthy hot spots for great food, Sydneysiders are more than a little spoilt for choice. From paleo inspired boutique cafes to organic supermarkets, cold pressed juice counters, raw bars and salad specialists. They have it all, and for many it’s literally no more than a stone’s throw away. Physio and ultimate foodie, Em Esslemont has been eating her way through Sydney one healthy meal at a time and she has shared some of her favs.
Whoever knew beetroot on toast could taste so good! Miche sourdough toast topped with roast beet puree with lemon and olive oil, smeared with coconut yoghurt and scattered with crisp roast chickpeas, cumin, orange rind and torn mint. Last day to catch this special! Get amongst it at Bondi, Double Bay and Alexandria. Thanks for the brekkie inspo @urbangrowers – it just look too darn good! #henleyswholefoods #weekend #special #cleaneating #breakfast #breakfastinsydney
Henley’s Wholefoods is one of those places where you can order anything and everything off the menu and not feel the slightest bit guilty about it. Talk about making healthy living easy! The ‘Shrooms’ is a breakfast favourite, and we strongly suggest a side of sweet potato wedges. The lunch menu changes weekly but always boasts fresh, seasonal salads and hearty protein choices so you can mix and match as you wish. Fresh smoothies, great coffee and a seriously tempting dessert cabinet are just a few more reasons why this place is at the top of our list!
Primal Benedict w roasted mushroom, kale and holy hell it’s good hollandaise… There’s also a grub free range ham version…. A photo posted by Ruby’s Diner (@rubyswaverley) on
If you want to eat where the locals eat make your way to Ruby’s Diner in Waverley. Be warned, a visit to this bustling Bronte road café may entail a little patience, especially on the weekend. But rest assured, the paleo burger is worth every waiting second with its deliciously sweet beetroot relish and tasty vintage cheddar. Serving cold drip and bulletproof coffee plus a decadent herbal tea selection, it’s the kind of café you could spend an entire afternoon at.
Check out this beauty. @sproutwholefood Our #lunch #special for the next two weeks is a refreshing #salad of smoked #trout, #beans, sweet potato, cherry tomatoes and olives topped with a perfectly poached #egg and a sumac lemon dressing. #wholefoodcafe #wholefood #paleo #paleocafe #healthycafesydney #naremburn #northsydney #sydney #eatrealfood #cleaneating #jerf #organic #organiccafe
Sprout Wholefoods in Naremburn is a one stop health spot. Grab a street-side seat and feast your eyes on their impressive menu. Whether it’s buckwheat pancakes for breakfast or miso smoked trout for lunch you will be left feeling pleasantly satisfied. On your way out don’t forget to stock up on your healthy groceries from the quaint little marketplace next door.
Spot of lunch time shopping? Make time to treat your body at the same time. Real food. You’re welcome. #lookfeelperform A photo posted by THR1VE (@thr1ve) on
For the hungry corporates with busy schedules Thr1ve has got you covered. With a few locations around the city they serve up real food, real fast. Choose to get mighty, clean, green or lean with a range of exciting & rather exotic lunch plates or design your own superfood bowl from scratch, that way you can’t possibly be disappointed. Everything is gluten free with no added sugar (yep it’s health food heaven) and it might just change the way you perceive fast food!
If you find yourself on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, catch a break from the Aussie summer sun with a visit to Pure Wholefoods in Manly. This cute little café is a health foodie’s dream den where sweet acai bowls, summer salads or homemade raw caramel slice are just a few of the delicious delicacies on offer. Wash it all down with a cold pressed juice, green smoothie or icy cold coconut. Sounds pretty sensational to me!
